Fabulous | CSI DT

Hello!

If  you are a summer and / or beach fiend, then you are going to LOVE the latest challenge over at CSI: Color Stories Inspiration!  Just look:

Here is how I solved the case:

IMG_9526_edited-1

The colour palette is all there.

I was inspired by the stripes, the deck of playing cards and the circles in the image.  I used a ‘Joker’ card just beneath my photograph – Isabella is ALWAYS joking around, so I couldn’t resist.  I also took inspiration from the triangular shape of the umbrella and so incorporated some triangles on my piece.  I added some sun-shaped chippies and to finish off, I added a fan (which is supposed to look like it’s in her hand).  Though there isn’t a fan in the image, the seashell in the lower right hand corner reminded me a little of a fan…

Having or being an only child is a bit of a catch-22 situation.  While you sometimes wish for another child or a sibling just to keep each other company, if anything – you are also sometimes happy to not have to share your parents with anyone else (and if you are said parent, you sometimes wonder how on Earth you would cope with another child – I speak personally, of course!).  However, this child of mine is really so, so good at entertaining herself – many’s the time I’ve eavesdropped on her while she is playing in her playroom – it’s really quite sweet.  And then of course, like with this photo of her, there are times that she’s not only entertaining herself… she’s entertaining US too!

Happy | MIUCB DT

Hey there and welcome to July. I don’t know about you, but I simply cannot believe that we’re already past the halfway mark of 2018. Crazy!

This month, Mix It Up Challenge blog is hosting a “Anything Goes + Mixed Media” challenge (use more than 1 medium).

I wanted to keep my LO for this challenge relatively simple, so I did a minimum amount of layering and also kept my background subtle. I primed my paper with heavy white gesso, then I smooshed some distress oxide over that, using bubble wrap. Then I applied some crackle paste through a stencil. After that, I dabbed on a little distress paint, also through a stencil – and while that was set, I sprinkled it with white UTEE and heat embossed it.

I hope you like it – and I can’t wait to see what you are going to make for this challenge!

Cute | CSI DT

Hey there!

Today over at CSI: Color Stories Inspiration, we have a lovely new palette for you to work with and some really gorgeous images to get your creative juices flowing!

Here is what I put together:

IMG_9520_edited-1

I used all the colours of the palette. I love how the upper left hand corner photograph has a white background, so I applied this concept to my LO as well. In addition, I made use of floral paper and woodgrain paper. The other feature of the photographs that really drew my eye, was that the black was such a small part – yet, it really stood out as specific details. That is why I chose to use layered chippies and made just the detail or outline of the flowers, black. I loved how cute the little girl in the photograph was, so I decided to use a super cute photo of my daughter when she was just a baby.

Though you can’t see it in this photograph, Isabella was wearing a crown alice band and to say that looked utterly adorable in it, would be a gross understatement. I knew that it would not last very long on her head, so I only managed to shoot off 3 photographs of her in it. Needless to say, sentimental sap that I am, we do still have this alice band lying around somewhere – almost 7.5 years later…

Here are some close ups of my LO.

Greetings everyone!

This month over at Off The Rails Challenge blog, we have a cold, chilly, icy inspired mood board for you to play along with. Personally, I LOVE it! You are inspired to bring cold into your piece, with this one. And it depicts a quote by an inspiring genius!

It’s pretty difficult for me to bring snow to any of my photographs, as here in South Africa, we are not blessed with snow – well, not REALLY. If you want snow, you’re going to have to travel up high!

This is what I put together. I grabbed onto that icy teal and used it on my background; my base page has a marble print, which helps bring in the cold to my LO! I also added a few vellum snowflakes for good measure. The photograph was taken in the middle of a wintry evening when Isabella and I popped out to watch my boyfriend play touch rugby. To add interest – I added some coral and yellow as well.IMG_9451_edited-1
