Happy Place

I have three posts to share with you today!

First up, is a Mixed Media canvas I did for the Mixed Media World March moodboard.

It’s a stunner, isn’t it!  And so befitting, because today is a particularly chilly day in Cape Town and I’m literally shivering as I type this!  Seems that Autumn is well and truly on its way and I think that we have a cold and wet season ahead of us.

I decided to make a little canvas for this one.  I’ve used the title “Happy Place” because the colder seasons are my absolute favourite – my happy place.  Here is what I made.

Namaste | Art Journal

Hi guys,

Another first time challenge entry post from me today!  This time it’s for Our Mixed Media Moods:

And here is the mood board challenge:

I decided to do an art journal page for this one.  I had a vision in my head of what I wanted to do, and then it ended up looking entirely different!  This was, however, one of those happy accidents, the end result of which I’m pretty happy with.  Here’s my entry:

I have had some people ask me how I achieved certain looks or what products I used, so (if I remember!) from my next post I will provide you with more of those details.

Thanks so much for popping in to have a closer look at my work!

It’s A Heart Thing | Ivytree Studio

It’s quite safe to say that the art journal bug has well and truly bitten me – and I hope that there is no cure!

Today I want to share with you, an art journal page which I did using fussy cut elements from the decadent Love range, which Ivytree Studio launched recently. I cannot tell you exactly which of the stunning hand painted elements is my favourite; but what I can tell you is that when I look at it, I think of soft pink marshmallows and of rich hot cocoa with a frothy melted marshmallow and of slightly melted vanilla ice cream with a rich strawberry sauce.  The colour palette for this range is just beautiful!

As you can see, not all the pretty papers are showcased in my mixed media art journal page – so you really must head on over the web page to take a good look – you can find the range here. And please don’t forget to scroll right down, where you will also find links to where you can hook up with us via Facebook and share with us, your very own Ivytree Studio works of art!

The papers I used for this piece are:

172/3 Endearment

172/5 Flower Accents

172/8 Pretty Pocket Cards

172/11 Candy Ombre

Additional materials – modge / mixed media gel, gesso, inks, adhesive

Dream Explore Discover

Hi all,

I have a HUGE scrapping admin day ahead of me today – I’m just hoping that I will get done in good time so that I can head to my room to PLAY some more!

Last week, I watched a Youtube video by Marta and fell in love with the journal page she did using tea and coffee!  The more I watched, the more I realised that I needed to try it immediately; and that I did!

You can view her video here.

Not only did I use tea and coffee, as she did in her video, but I also made a batch of home made texture paste and used it on my journal page too.  I tell you what, my art journal smells pretty incredible right now!  This is what I did (and it’s been a very long time where I’ve created art that is ‘just because’ – all other work has been either for a challenge or as my role as DT member):

Arty Advenyure

My final post for today!  For a few weeks now, I’ve been looking into Art Journalling; the more video’s I watched, the more intrigued I became.  So I started looking at actual journals, not finding EXACTLY what I already knew I wanted.  Long story short, someone recommended one at an art shop in Jo’burg; my partner was there at the time on business, so I sent him to check it out.  He ended up buying it for me as a gift… what a guy!

I tentatively started on a project yesterday; and when all was dry today, I let rip!  I decided to work with the March mood board over at Picture This!

And this is what I did with this gorgeous mood board (be gentle with me … this IS my first time!!).  I decided to title this project ‘Arty Adventure’ because it’s the first in, what I am certain, will be a long line of artiness!

U Make My Heart Flutter

Next up is a mixed media oval canvas, which I did for the March challenge over at More Than Words.  It is just so incredibly PRETTY!

Butterflies are one of natures’ most miraculous and beautiful creatures; I have plenty in my garden currently and it’s so calming to watch as they literally waft from flower to flower.

For this canvas, I decided to scrap a photograph of my Isabella holding onto a butterfly – and I also found this title chippie which I thought fit in so cleverly with the butterfly theme too!

Here is the canvas I made over the past few days; along with a few close up images:

Magical Moments

Hi everyone,

And here we are with another full admin day.  Little do non-scrappers know how much admin is required… taking pics, editing pics, drafting the blog post, sharing to social media… sounds like just a wee bit of time, but believe me it can be quite time consuming.  And if you’re like me where you’d rather be arting… well, then you must know how grumpy this all makes me.

Anyway!  On to better things!  And as such, the latest mood board challenge that Scrapping Clearly have up for March (I will be doing the sketch challenge at a later stage):

When I looked at this mood board, I was immediately drawn to the blue’s; and also to the fact that it had a wet and wintry feel to it.  I decided to use lots of water and mists on my piece; and also scrap a selfie of Isabella and I, taken in the thick of our winter last year.  Here’s what I did:

Always Wear Your Invisible Crown

It has been quite an admin intensive morning in my neck of the woods – made worse by the fact that my computer is, for reasons unknown, very veeerrryyyyyy slow!

Anyway!  Last week I stumbled on yet another challenge site called Mixed Media & Art; and while browsing through all the incredible works of art, it dawned on me that I really just DON’T do enough mixed media artwork.

I decided then and there to take part in their February Challenge

I adore these colours, images and the sketch is divine; I specifically took inspiration from the flowers and the gold ‘accents’ throughout the image above!  Here is what I threw together over the last few days!
